James Francis Ivory (1928) is an American movie director, producer, and screenwriter. He studied at the University of Oregon and the University of Southern California. He started as a documentary filmmaker and worked extensively in India. In 1961, he formed a production company with Indian film producer Ismail Merchant (his domestic and professional partner) and screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.
For his work on CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (2017), Ivory won awards from the Academy Awards, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the Writers Guild of America, the Critics' Choice Awards, and the Scripter Awards, among others.
For winning the Oscar and BAFTA, Ivory became the oldest-ever winner in any category for both award shows.
