From Lviv Pride to rainbow flags on Khreshchatyk — 2026 is yet to be the queerest year in Ukraine’s history.

The year kicked off with LGBTQIA+ blocks joining the Women’s March on Khreshchatyk. Currently Kyiv is also hosting the 4th «Sunny Bunny» Queer Film Festival, while the 10th-anniversary «KyivPride» prepares for its June return. Word is that «LvivPride» might also take place this summer, followed by the annual «KharkivPride» in September.

Over a decade of street demonstrations for equal rights has profoundly transformed Ukrainian society. Even as legislative progress lags, public perception of the LGBTQIA+ community has shifted for the better.

Now is the perfect time to look back at the journey so far, assess where we stand today, and discuss where we go next.
